The Picton Pirates (14-11-1) were unable to capitalize on a great road start and fell to the streaking Amherstview Jets on Sunday evening.
After going down 1-0 in the first minute of the first period, Picton was able to get three past 16-year-old Jets goalie Nathan Perry to take a 3-1 lead late in the frame.
Eric Hayes, Jeff Kingdon and Jack Davison were able to find the range as the Pirates took the play in the Amherstview end and kept it there for long stretches.
Cam Cleave almost made it 4-1 late in the stanza, but caught all iron with his top shelf attempt.
Realizing they just dodged a bullet and the game was still up for grabs, the Jets rallied and Adam Sikora dn Brent Gilmour combined on a nice play to make it 3-2 at the end of 20 minutes.
As they did in the first, Picton gave up a goal in the first minute to make it 3-3.
Wil Healey's third of the season came off a crazy carom behind the Jets cage, but the puck settled into Amherstview net at 6:23 to give Picton a 4-3 edge.
The see saw battle would continue with Amherstview getting the next two goals to go up 5-4.
Dylan Leduc scored his first of the evening at 14:28 when he was able to slip the puck past Perry to make it 5-5.
It looked like the teams might make it the second intermission tied, but the Jets had other ideas, scoring twice in the final minute against a beleaguered Trevor Green to make it 7-5.
Haydn McInroy took over for Green in the third and stopped all nine shots sent his way, but the Bucs scoring dried up and Picton was unable to get within one.
The Pirates out shot their opponent 42-32.
Rounding out the scoring, Leduc, Josh Fagan, Steve Csanyi, Davison, Kingdon and Dylan Mountenay had assists.
Picton winds up the 2009 portion of their Empire Schedule on Thursday night at home when they take on the Port Hope Panthers.
Game time is 7:30
The Picton Pirates (14-10-1) got seven goals in the third period as they blasted the Frontenac Flyers 11-0 at home on Thursday.
Newcomer Dylan Leduc had two goals (in a 24 second span) and two assists to help lead Picton's point parade with four.
Leduc has seven points in three games since being acquired from the Napanee Raiders at the December 1st OHA cut down.
Bloomfield's Ryan Beatty added a hat trick in the win while other Picton scorers included Jack Davison (2), Cam Cleave, Dylan Mountenay, Cale Evans and Ryan Sizer.
Picking up assists against the undermanned Frontenac squad which has yet to bust into the win column this season were Josh MacLeod (2), Jeff Kingdon (2), Kyle Beatty (2), Wil Healey, Brandon Peever, Evans, Cleave, Sizer, Eric Hayes, Davison and Steven Csanyi.
While not tested for vast stretches of the game, Picton netminder Trevor Green was sharp when he had to be, stopping 27 shots for his first Junior Hockey shutout.
The win was Picton's 14th of the season and the squad is one victory away from matching it's 2008-09 win total.
The win gave Picton 29 points on the season, nine more than the 5th place Campbellford Rebels.
Picton's top scorer Liam McFall and sniper Brock Baragar sat out due to injuries and their status is day-to-day.
Picton will try to win in Amherstview for the first time this season when they visit the Jets on Sunday.
The Pirates will be busy on Tuesday as the Olympic torch stops in Picton. The local Junior C squad will be volunteering at the event.
Picton's last home game before the Christmas holidays will be Thursday, Dec. 17th against the Port Hope Panthers.
Picton Opened the scoring to lead 1-0 with Port Hope later tying it.
Picton took a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period, where they saw Port Hope get a quick one to tie it at 2-2.
The score remained that way into O.T where Picton had a .18 second 4 on 3 power play to start O.T and later had a 2min power in O.T but could not capitalize.
